We think that seven is quite a delightful age! Many parents refer to this age group as the ideal age as your little person is able to help themselves more, and they can help you more too. Most importantly, they are still really excited to – Ahhh Bliss.
They might want to hang out with their friends more, but they are still very happy to hang out with the family. It’s a great mix.
You might start to see some changes happening in your 7 year old that sometimes you feel are happening a little too soon, as they start to show some more grown up behaviour.
You’ll also see their academic abilities start to improve as Reading, Writing, and Maths skills develop, and your conversations become more mature and you might even see kids jokes starting to creep into every day life. We find some of our kids joke books are a favourite for this age group.
At age 7 its a great time for working on self-regulation skills, skills that help our maturing little people manage their feelings through expressing how they feel with words rather than actions.
We find cause and effect games are great for this age group as they really start to comprehend these concepts. Rules also work well, so games and toys that have clear and defined rules that keep games fair and in control are a good idea.
Don’t forget how much a 7 year old likes to move and with improved coordination skills there is a range of more complicated games to be played.
