5 year old – it’s a big year.
These little people are now in the full swing of using their imaginations and are likely to come out with funny things that make you laugh. They are talking more and have A LOT to say. But now they are starting to understand the difference between imagination play and real play. Being able to remember real things that happened will be a topic they like to cover as they recount experiences from their day, and the details, or amount of detail remembered, can get really impressive.
You also start to see their personality start to shine as they can share their thoughts and opinions with you.
They are still so little and cute, but are starting to do such big kids things, like going to school. Your little person might be ready to be off to school as soon as they turn 5 or might need a bit more time and to go a little closer to 6. You’ll know the right time for your kid.
But regardless of when they are ready for that, we all agree it’s a really fun age. They start absorbing information like a sponge – it’s so fast! It’s a great time for problem solving toys and games to help assist those developing skills.
As they have improved motor skills, art and crafts toys are great. Games that include dice that might need adding up . Or you might like to introduce games provide building opportunities. A 5 year old will still very much enjoy building a town or village, to then create an imaginative world within.
