There is something quite endearing about a 4 year old child. There is some lovely development happening in that little person as they start to look for more connection with other children and understand some of the feelings being experienced.
At this age a 4 year old typically is starting to play more cooperatively with other children and prefers playing with their friends than alone (we say typically as of course there are exceptions to every rule, which is perfect – difference is what keeps everything interesting).
At this age they are managing to make their make-believe play more creative, and as an adult, it can be quite fun to watch their story lines elaborate and evolve.
Food and kitchen toys are very popular for this age group. If you set up a kitchen play area, it’s no time at all before someone becomes the cook and someone else might become a family member ready for a dinner. Or set up a grocery/shop play area and one child might immediately become the store owner and another starts shopping. But then watch their imaginations take over as the story elaborates.
We also find that the musical toys we stock are really popular for this age group. Have a few instruments on hand, and what your child and friends make their first BAND! Or as in a lot of homes, watch a resourceful 4 year old make the whole family join in the fun.
This is also a great time for playing maths games based around time as they are starting to understand the time as a concept and how it works.
Whatever your little one is enjoying, we hope you have as much fun as possible with your special little person.
