In all honesty, we feel that this junior age group quite often get a worse wrap than they deserve. Sure, 2 year olds are known for sowing defiance and this is the time the start to push the boundaries, but this how they start to explore the world around them.
Imagine how frustrating it is for them. They’ve started to work out what they want but they still struggle to communicate it properly. They have big new emotions that they don’t quite know what to do with. But they are sure they don’t need that nap because there is a very good chance that they’ll miss out on something. And normally, a nap is all that is needed for a reset, which is all they needed. It’s quite the contradiction all around really isn’t it.
During this time, you Little Mr and Miss 2 is very active with all their new physical skills. Think about how a walk in the rain has changed to the biggest jumping in puddles session they can muster, and you’ll see what I mean.
But in addition to the more physical coordination they’ve developed, 2 year olds are now starting sort shapes and colours all by themselves. They no longer need mum and dads help to build towers, they can start doing basic structures all by themselves and they will start to copy straight lines and circles. Wow – that 2 year old is impressive.
We love introducing train sets for 2-year olds, that’s if you haven’t already had them playing with the junior trains perfect for 18 month olds. Train set offer a world of play for 2 year olds. We would also add to that the musical range of toys we offer as a must have for 2 year olds. Both toy ranges align with their need for hands on play and development of their fine motor skills.
