Our little 18 months old kids are MOBILE! That is sometimes full on for parents, but for these little masters of activity, it’s all they want. They will climb anything they can and push and pull whatever can be moved. Add to this, they are starting to engage in pretend play and will quite often copy what they see their adults doing. It’s the reason you might get a mud pie served to you accompanied by a cup of tea (water if your lucky), or why they will want to push the mini shopping trolly at the supermarket (if your supermarket has those). This is a super cute time that brings a lot of fun play ideas.
All of our imaginative play toys are fantastic for fostering those skills. Things like baby dolls with prams and beds, pretend kitchens and other homeware, tea sets, shopping trollies and groceries, dollhouses, building toys like dad’s’ tools.
As this is a time of development for their imaginations, keep in mind that a simple toy allows for your 18 months old to have open ended play. This type of play is not pre-decided by the toy and allows their creativity to blossom. Crayons and colouring pencils are a great idea for this age group as are basic colouring books.
Toys that also allow them to be active are a must. Balls can be kicked, music toys can be played and danced to, bowling sets can be set up and knocked down.
We also have specific train and imaginary kitchen/food play that are designed for the 18 months age group. Both are just slightly easier to work with than their counterparts designed for the 2 years plus and they will easily work in with future similar toys.
Don’t ever forget about the importance of books in your child’s life. Reading with your child is important and as equally important is giving them age-appropriate books they can look through and/or read by themselves.
