At 1 year old it is natural for our children to becoming more active and curious. They start to express themselves more as they work out what they want. Their uncompressible babble may be turning into words you can understand, and they may be taking some first steps.
We say ‘may’ on these points because if there is one thing that all kids are alike on, it’s that they do everything at their own speed and in their own time. And no 2 are alike.
The one thing that is still at the forefront of our minds when looking at toys for 1 year old’s is that they need to be safe, and the best ones provide the best learning opportunities they can.
Some of the changes you may notice in your 1 year old is that they start to connect with the people around them more. Just subtle little things like picking a book to hand to you when they want to hear a story or copying different movements and gestures. This is a perfect time to introduce some social games with your little person. Hiding games are great as are lift/flap books.
Blocks are a must have for a house with a 1 year old. These can help develop find motor skills and are a toy that works with several the different age group milestones due to their open-ended play nature and style.
Ride on toys come into play here too and can help with balance or mobility. Rocking horses are fantastic especially if they are designed to grow with your little one and give them a toy that they can use for years to come.
Musical toys feature high on the list for 1 year olds. For starters, they love them which is great. But music toys also help with auditory development and sound recognition.
